Cumbria County Council Proposal - A594
Dovenby - Speed Limit Reduction
The
proposed changes are to reduce part of the existing 50mph speed limit to 40mph,
through the village of Dovenby. This proposal comes as a result of an
independent Engineering Safety Study carried out along the A594 Dovenby
considering its history of collisions and their associated causation factors.
The study indicated that a reduction in speed limit would help to prevent these
types of collisions from occurring as frequently, should it be introduced.
This
proposal did NOT include
the Dovenby Craggs crossroads giving the access to Tallentire, but feedback has
revealed that some comments made regarding the proposal strongly favour
including the Dovenby Craggs crossroads as there have been several accidents
there in the last few years. Thus it has been suggested that the speed limit
may also include the Tallentire turning at Dovenby Craggs.
The public
were able to give their views on the proposal, which is now under discussion
and subsequently Cumbria County Council accepted that there was concern about
the Dovenby Craggs crossroads, and is considering the extension of the new
40mph speed limit to include this area as well as Dovenby Village area.
It is
hoped that a new speed limit will be in operation before too long.
