Dovenby WI September 2015

The August Outing was to Keswick Museum & Art Gallery

Seventeen members travelled by community mini-bus to Keswick to visit the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery; followed by afternoon tea at the Pheasant Inn.

The September meeting was opened by Acting President Nita Eubank and Secretary Sheila Martin read the minutes of the last meeting which were duly accepted.

After a rendition of Jerusalem, Nita introduced our speaker for the evening, Gaynor Davis. Her theme was 'The Mad Hatter'!

Gaynor gave the members an entertaining and very enjoyable evening, based on her life experiences with hats! She produced from her shopping bag a variety of hats, which all had personal memories. Most of the stories involved Arthur, her husband -poor man. It is to be hope that he never joins her for her talks. Her poetry telling was reminiscent of the poet Pam Eyres, especially the poem about Arthur and his hearing aid, and men with colds.

A lovely evening was completed with gateaux and rosť wine as a celebration of the birthday of Dovenby WI.

The competition, a hat, was won by Martha Robinson, and in second place Nancy Fearon.

The raffle was won by Nita Eubank.

Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk/wi
