Dovenby WI September 2014

The September meeting was opened by Vice president Nita Eubank, and stand in Secretary Carol Colquitt continued by reading the minutes of the July meeting, which were duly accepted as correct.

The evening was a birthday celebration, with serving of gateaux and wine.

Gaynor Davies was our guest speaker, and she certainly put a smile on everyone's faces with her light-hearted poetry reading.

Apart from writing poetry, Gaynor is also busy raising money for charity by the making of various crafts, from beautiful greetings cards to hand-knitted novelties. The members contributed well by buying from the selection of crafts available.

The money raised will go to help Smile Train, which helps millions of children in developing countries with cleft lip and palate problems.

The surgery is simple and the transformation is immediate.

Nita gave Gaynor a vote of thanks for her contribution to a very enjoyable evening.

The competition was won by Nita Eubank, with Mary Foster and Nancy Fearon in joint second place.

Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk.
