Dovenby WI November 2014

Vice President Nita Eubank opened the meeting and Secretary Sheila Martin read the minutes of the last meeting which were duly accepted.

Nita introduced our speaker for the evening, Catherine Pearson, whose expertise in floral arrangement was spectacular.

Catherine, a farmer's wife and mother, has ten years' experience in floral arrangement, ranging from weddings to competition work, both locally and nationally.

She created four outstanding displays using a mix of hedgerow foliage and cultivated flowers. To complete her Christmas displays, gold ribbons, cinnamon cones and sparkling stars contributed well to her creative forms.

The displays were raffled amongst the members.

Joyce Thompson won the raffle, with Sheila Wilkinson, Kath Palmer and Jean Moralee collecting the rest.

The Christmas sale table was a great success, contributing 'Grow a Ten Pound' appeal.

The quiz was won by Julie Rollison and Carol Colquitt.

The competition, a leaf collage, was won by Anita Birkett, with Ann Lister in second place.

Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk/wi
