Dovenby WI November 2012
President Geraldine Baldwin opened the meeting after which Secretary Carole Colquitt dealt with correspondence, which included an invitation from Crosby WI for four members to attend their meeting on December 6th. She then reported that the WI Trustees coffee morning was well attended and made a profit of £39.
On completion of the business, Guest Speaker Sue Forte was introduced, and gave a talk on Guide Dogs for the Blind.
First signing up as a puppy walker, and then moving on to foster caring, Sue has now been associated with Guide Dogs for sixteen years. The Association has been in existence for 80 years, and they breed their own dogs. Over their lifetime a dog can cost up to £45,000.
All finance comes from donations, legacies and corporate bodies.
When training, puppies are taken everywhere and into every possible situation before being matched to the correct person.
Sue finished her very interesting talk with poem which she had written called "I Used To Walk Puppies".
A vote of thanks was given by the President.
The next meeting is the Christmas Lunch on December 13th.
The Competition, a funny dog picture, was won by Joan Sims, with Sylvia Wingrove coming second.
The quiz was won by Diana Clark with runners up Nita Eubank and Pat Harper.
The raffle was won by Jean Moralee.
