Vice president Nita Eubank opened the meeting and secretary Sheila Martin read the minutes of the February meeting.
We had a very enjoyable evening, with invited guests from the Cockermouth and Dean WI's. A buffet supper, which we always do well, was provided by our Dovenby members.
Nita Eubank introduced our speaker for the evening, Sarah Jackson, a stained glass artist based in Wigton. From attending evening classes in 2002, she has continued to develop her techniques and increased her portfolio of work. Her unique artistry involves Tiffany style and leaded light work. Her pieces are all hand crafted, from small objects to larger commissioned pieces. Her demonstration was skilled and very detailed, with the use of coloured glass and tools. Her work is displayed for sale in Cockermouth and Wigton.
Sheila Wilkinson gave Sarah a vote of thanks for this very informative and enjoyable demonstration and talk.
The evening finished with the buffet, and the usual fun of the competition, which was won by Evelyn Varty and Carole Colquitt. Our guest from Cockermouth WI, Faith Watterson, won the visitor's prize.
The quiz winner was Jane Burns of Cockermouth WI.
The first raffle prize was won by Mona Brough of Dean WI. Kathleen Clementson of Dean WI, Joyce Thompson and Ann Lister received the other prizes.
Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk/wi
