The members were entertained by a wonderful musical performance given by four talented musicians. Pat Nelson and Lorna Quinn opened the evening with a piano and song rendition of "Ticket to Heaven". Pat's superb singing was followed by a funny story - 'How to give a cat a pill', which filled the room with laughter by Pat's expressive reading.
We were then introduced to Callum Morley and Mark Hazzard. Callum is a sixth-former at Cockermouth School, and a very talented singer. He sang a mix of songs from the musicals, including 'Some Enchanted Evening' and 'The Street Where You Live'. He has been offered a place in performing arts in Blackpool, and well deserves it. Mark Hazzard, a teacher in Maryport, and an excellent pianist, played a piano duet with Lorna, his former music teacher. This talented young man is also organising a performance in St. Mary's church in Maryport by eleven primary schools.
This was an excellent evening, and it was really lovely to see the youth of today making good.
President Geraldine Baldwin gave a vote of thanks to the quartet. The minutes were read by Secretary Sheila Martin, and duly accepted. Sheila continued the business of the evening, and names were taken for a visit to Cranstons, Penrith for the next meeting.
The competition - A Musical Ornament, was won by Hazel Graves, with Julie Rollison in second place.
The Quiz - was won Nita Eubank, with Pat Saunders and Martha Robinson in joint second place.
The raffle - was won by Ann Lister.
