Dovenby WI March 2013

The meeting opened with Secretary Carole Colquitt reading the minutes of the February meeting which were duly accepted. The August trip was discussed, and members agreed that it should be to Levens Hall and Lakeland Plastics in Windermere, followed by a meal on the way home.

Guest speaker Sue Lane was introduced, and she then gave a talk on jewellery making. She explained that she started in jewellery making to sell items in aid of the Hospice at Home charity, after having had their help for a family member. This was so successful that it snowballed into jewellery parties.

Sue gave us a demonstration by making a napkin ring.

She had lots of examples of her work, showing earrings, bracelets and necklaces. She has even made a wedding bouquet and accessories.

After the talk some members made purchases and Geraldine Baldwin offered a vote of thanks for this very interesting talk and demonstration.

The competition, an interesting piece of beadwork was won by Joan Sims with Geraldine Baldwin in second place.

The quiz was won by Nita Eubank.

The raffle was won by Diana Clark.

Dovenby WI is always glad to welcome new members or visitors. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at Bridekirk Dovenby School.
