Dovenby WI March 2010

The March meeting opened with secretary Geraldine Baldwin reading the minutes of the February meeting, which were duly accepted. President Diana Clark then continued with the rest of the business during which members were told that the August meeting would be a trip to Alnwick, stopping for a meal on the way home.

Guest speaker John Williams was then introduced and gave a talk with slides on 'Old Carlisle'. Mr Williams came to Carlisle in 1991, and joined and worked for the Trust Conservation Volunteers for two years. Seeing an advert for guides for the City of Carlisle, he applied for and was accepted for the post. His slides showed some hidden gems of Carlisle, and his explanations and stories made a very interesting evening.

Pat Harper gave a vote of thanks to Mr Williams.

The competition - an old postcard, was won by Jean Moralee, with Mary Foster as runner up.

The quiz was won by Pat Harper, Julie Rollison and Nancy Fearon.

The raffle was won by Rosalind Haston.

Dovenby WI is always happy to see new faces. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at Bridekirk Dovenby School commencing
