Police Notices

Dovenby WI July 2018

President Nita Eubank welcomed everyone to the meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted as correct.

A short business meeting was held. Members were reminded that August 11th will be Summer Outing to Carlisle Castle which will include talk, tour and Afternoon Tea.

Nita then welcomed our speaker for the evening Sergeant Suzanne Redikin Community Police Officer stationed at Cockermouth Police Station. Suzanne originally from Bolton has been in the Police Force for 18 years in various roles and for the last 16 months has been a Community Officer; working closely with children and undertakes school visits. Suzanne also deals with the many issues that can arise between neighbours trying to find a way forward for them. Her role is interlinked with other agencies who all work together to improve our community. Suzanne pointed out how important it is for the general public to express any concerns they may have. A general discussion was held on a question and answer basis.

It is not an easy job, but she says that as a result of all agencies working together, some improvement in anti social behaviour can be seen. The focus being very much on preventing crime.

Nita gave the vote of thanks for a fascinating insight to all the police do and pointed out that at times it must be very frustrating. The Police do all they can in difficult circumstances.

The competition "A Whistle" was won by Ann Shepherd with Nita Eubank in second place. The raffle was won by Joyce Thompson and the quiz by Pat Harper
Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http lwww.bridekirkparish.org.uk org.uk
