Dovenby WI July 2016

President Nita Eubank opened the meeting by introducing the visiting speaker, Robert Bolton, an expert gemologist, and Judith Benn representing the area at the AGM in Brighton. Judith gave a colourful and informative account of the events including the long coach journey to Sussex.

Sheila Martin, secretary, read the minutes and reminded the members about the August trip to the 'Devils Porridge' museum at Eastriggs. Nita continued with the County News, and then introduced us to our speaker, Robert Bolton from Brampton. His expertise and knowledge gave the members a fantastic insight into its history and production of the diamond. Robert allowed us to handle valuable pieces of jewellery, including a Cartier brooch, a glittering collection well beyond our pockets!

Nita gave Robert a vote of thanks for sharing his knowledge with us, this being met with great interest by all.

The evening included the competition, an item of jewellery, which was won by Kath Palmer.

The quiz again included a few winners - Nita, Evelyn, Hillary and Pamela.

The raffle was won by Eleri Hill.

Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk/wi
