Dovenby WI July 2012

The meeting was opened by the President, who welcomed guests from Crosby and Greysouthen WI s, and after a short business meeting introduced Marie Byrne and the Allerdale Fiddlers.

They played lively Scottish and Irish reels and jigs, keeping the feet tapping. Solo player Cliff Sandham then played three popular ragtime tunes and Celia Chamberlain read an amusing monologue "a Letter from Grandma".

Steven Bailey sang several popular songs, accompanied by Marie Byrne.

The fiddlers ended their repertoire with a medley of Scottish songs sung by Steven Bailey with members joining in.

Geraldine Baldwin gave a vote of thanks for an entertaining musical evening.

Members provided a lovely buffet supper to complete a great evening.

The Competition - A single flower, was won by Jean Moralee, with Anita Birkett in second place.

The visitors' competition was won by Ann Crellin from Crosby WI.

Dovenby WI is always glad to welcome new members or visitors. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at Bridekirk Dovenby School. More details and a programme are to be found on www.bridekirkparish.org.uk.
