Dovenby WI July 2009

The meeting began with guest speaker Gillian Harris being introduced to talk and demonstrate bread making by hand and by machine.

Her first demonstration was making ginger bread by machine, followed by a wholemeal loaf, also by machine.

She then continued by making Jewish bread, soda bread, Chelsea buns and a very tasty bubblebread, which members tasted during a coffee break.

Whilst baking the different breads, a short business meeting was held. It was decided that members would provide a finger buffet for the September meeting and that the Christmas party would be held at the same venue as last year.

The evening closed with Mrs Harris donating all her breads to be raffled to members.

A vote of thanks for a very interesting and enlightening evening was given by Carol Colquit.

The competition - 3 plain scones was won by Pat Harper, with runner up Rosalind Haston.

The Raffle was won by Pat Saunders.

The August Meeting is a trip to Drumlanrig Castle arranged for Thursday 13th August.

Dovenby WI is always happy to see new faces. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at Bridekirk Dovenby School commencing at 7:30pm.
