Dovenby WI January 2017

President Nita Eubank opened the meeting, wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Sheila Martin, secretary, read the minutes and this was followed by the County Newsletter, this being read by Nita.

The speaker for the evening was Barbara Goldie, the area coordinator for Project Linus UK. This is a volunteer organisation which provides homemade quilts, blankets and incubator covers for children in hospitals and hospices. Since 2000 volunteers have created over 145,000 quilts.

Barbara gave the members a fascinating insight into the history of Linus and its value to children in the UK who are sick or traumatised. These quilts provide the sense of security and comfort to babies, children and teenagers. Barbara brought examples of these beautiful and very colourful articles, which any child would love to hug.

Barbara is very keen for people to help by donating fabrics, attending workshops, or making quilts or blankets. (tel 01900 813008 or email barbaragoldie@talk21.com)

Nita gave Barbara a vote of thanks for a very enjoyable and wonderful talk.

The competition, a pin cushion, was won by Pat Saunders.

The raffle was won by Barbara Goldie - well deserved!

The quiz was won by Diana Clark and Martha Robinson.

Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk/wi
