Dovenby WI January 2013

In spite of the weather, 25 members attended the January meeting.

Guest speaker Jackie Wilkinson was introduced, and gave a talk on 'Food for Life'. A scientist, and also an international sportswoman, Jackie now runs nutritional coaching and runs group courses, as well as one to one sessions.

She explained how the body is continually building itself with the right foods, although some types of food can react differently to the body. She also mentioned that unfortunately heart disease, diabetes, obesity and allergies are now on the increase. We were given many tips for keeping healthy including drinking water, trying to eat fresh food, mental and physical activity and resting when tired.

The evening concluded with a short business meeting, during which president Geraldine Baldwin gave a vote of thanks to Jackie for a very interesting and enlightening talk.

The competition - an egg cup was won by Hazel Graves, with Joan Sims second.

The quiz was won by Past Saunders and Sheila Wilkinson.

The raffle was won by Diana Clark

Dovenby WI is always glad to welcome new members or visitors. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at Bridekirk Dovenby School.
