Dovenby WI January 2012

The meeting opened with Secretary Carole Colquit reading the minutes of the last meeting, which were then duly accepted.

As it is Dovenby's year to attend the AGM at the Albert Hall, an invitation was made to members to volunteer to attend to represent Dovenby WI.

Subscriptions for the following twelve months were collected during the evening.

President Geraldine Baldwin then introduced guest speaker Sion Davies to give a talk on antiques. Instead of the usual talk, members were put into groups of five. Mr Davis passed various objects around, and we were asked to say what some were used for and others what material they were made from.

For the competition, members were asked to bring a small antique. Mr Davis then went through each one, giving a short resume and date for each object. The competition was won by Julie Rollison, with Martha Thompson in second place.

The raffle was won by Anita Birkett, and the quiz was won by Pat Saunders, with runners up Martha Robinson and Nita Eubank.

Dovenby WI is always glad to welcome new members or visitors. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at Bridekirk Dovenby School. More details and a programme are to be found on www.bridekirkparish.org.uk.
