President Geraldine Baldwin opened the meeting and Secretary Sheila Martin continued by reading the minutes of the January meeting which were duly accepted as correct. The County News was then read, after which voting forms regarding the future of WI House were given out. All correspondence having been dealt with, the President then introduced guest speaker Patric Gilcrist, who gave a talk on the Theatre by the Lake.
For twenty years four portable cabins on wheels toured the country before finally ending up permanently in Keswick, becoming known as 'The Blue Box'.
Lottery money provided 75% of the cost, with donations providing the rest of the money needed.
It was explained that, as well as plays and pantomime, the theatre also holds regular fine-art and photographic exhibitions and that a new café provides food and drink for all theatre goers.
Mr Gilchrist, who is executive director, gave us a potted history of his various positions in theatres before coming to Keswick.
The President gave a vote of thanks to our speaker for a very enlightening and interesting talk.
The competition - a walking stick, was won by Geraldine Baldwin, with Anita Birkett in second place.
The Quiz - was won by Joyce Thompson - First, Carole Colquitt - Second, Joyce Bowness - Third and Sheila Wilkinson - Fourth.
The raffle - was won by Joyce Thompson.
