Dovenby WI February 2011
President Geraldine Baldwin opened the meeting and Secretary Carol Colquitt then read the minutes of the January meeting, which were accepted as correct. As the Christmas party was cancelled due to weather, a lunch has been arranged for March 17th at Bothel Craggs.
After dealing with any other business, Geraldine introduced Sally Rodwell, who gave a talk on chiropody. Sally is a professional podiatrist, and has a practice in Dearham, treating feet only.
Treatments cover corn removal, hard skin, nails, diabetic foot care and massage. She talked about how the foot is a masterpiece of engineering, which consists of 33 joints, 8 arches, 26 bones, more than 100 muscles, ligaments and tendons. All work together to distribute the body weight and allow movement. She spoke of several home made remedies to help the feet, one being mustard, and another Epson salts. A quiz consisted of questions about the feet, and Geraldine won this and was given a prize of free treatment at the clinic.
The competition was an ornamental shoe, and was won by Rosalind Haston, with Nancy Fearon in second place.
The raffle was won by Chris Nicholson.
The quiz was won by Diana Clark and Nita Eubank, with Pat Saunders in second place.
Dovenby WI is always glad to welcome new members or visitors. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at Bridekirk Dovenby School.
