Dovenby WI February 2010

Due to the adverse weather conditions, the January meeting had to be cancelled.

The February meeting commenced with a short business meeting and the introduction of several new members. On completion, president Diana Clark introduced the return of guest speaker Norman Godfrey, who gave a talk with slides and music on cycling to the source of the Rhine.

Starting in mid-April 2006, he followed the Rhine from the North Sea through Holland and Germany to Basel in Switzerland and then to its source at Hinterrhein, a total of 1,225 miles. Stopping off to see family and friends, Mr Godfrey ended his journey in June 2006.

A vote of thanks was given by Lena Slater, who mentioned how scenic this journey was, and how well the music of Brahms and Schubert accompanied it.

The Competition - A photo of the Lake District was won by Sheila Wilkinson with visitor Mary Groves as runner-up.

The Quiz was won by 1) Geraldine Baldwin 2) Pat Saunders and 3) Mary Groves.

Dovenby WI is always happy to see new faces. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at Bridekirk Dovenby School commencing at 7
