Dovenby WI August 2018
Dovenby WI didn't have a formal meeting in August, as it is always our Summer outing.
This year, we went to Carlisle Castle and had a slide show presentation given by Curator, Stuart Eastwood, on the last twelve months of the First World War. Members then viewed an exhibition of memorabilia and artefacts of both the first and second world wars, at Cumbria's Museum of Military Life in Carlisle Castle.
The Museum is now exhibiting an Open Art Exhibition of local amateur artists on the theme of remembrance, and what remembrance means to them. The exhibition runs until 2nd September 2018.
The day was rounded off with an afternoon tea of cakes and sandwiches.
Members commented on what an interesting and thought-provoking day it was, and highly recommend a visit.
Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk/wi
