Dovenby WI Report August 2015

August Outing to Keswick Museum & Art Gallery

On 13th August 2015, seventeen members of the Dovenby W.I. travelled by community mini-bus to Keswick to visit the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery; followed by afternoon tea at the Pheasant Inn.

We were warmly welcomed by Helen Keogh, Learning Officer at the museum, who gave us a guided tour of the wonderful exhibits. The group were taken behind the scenes, and many of the iconic exhibits were pointed out to us; for example, the mummified cat, a large model of the Lake District and of course the magnificent musical stones. At present, there is a fantastic exhibition of Wainwright's 'A Love Letter to the Lakeland Fells', which is well worth a visit.

After browsing the museum's many exhibits, our tour moved on to the Pheasant Inn where we enjoyed afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes and scones; beautifully served in picturesque surroundings.

It was a beautiful day with wonderful weather, and many thanks to Carol Colquit, committee member, for organising such a perfect day.

Sheila Martin (Secretary)
