Dovenby WI April 2013

For the April meeting 22 members met at St. Mary's Church, Wigton.

Members were shown the Bragg Family windows. These three windows were commissioned by Melvin Bragg, with one dedicated to his parents, one to his children and the third for his aunts and uncles.

Artist Brian Campbell explained that his brief was to incorporate Christianity with elements of Wigton. It was two years before the church authorities accepted suitable designs.

Alex Haines of Brampton carried out the work, with the whole project taking five years to complete.

After looking round the church, members then adjourned to the Greenhill Hotel Restaurant for a light supper, which was enjoyed by everyone.

Dovenby WI is always glad to welcome new members or visitors. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at Bridekirk Dovenby School.
