Minutes of the meeting of Bridekirk Parish Council held on Thursday 14th February 2019

Present: Simon Dumbill (Chair); Mr R Stenson; Mr W Nixon ;Mr D Hodgson; Mr M Rollison; Mr R Coy; Mr M Buckley; Mr I McCambridge; Mr F Armstrong. Cllr N Cockburn United Utilities representatives and 2 Members of the Public

1.1.19 Apologies for absence received from; Cllr J Farebrother;

2.1.19 The minutes of the meetings held on Thursday 13th December 2019 were signed as a true record. Proposer SD; Seconded D H

3.1.19 DH Bus shelter, Dovenby, it adjoins his property.

4.1.19 Member of the public was present to request that the Parish Council members adhere to the Nolan Principles and investigate his grievance into his perceived corruption in Allerdale BC, Cumbria County Council and the Police. It was explained that this is outwith the powers of the Parish Council and he has asked for this to be put in writing with a view to taking the matter further for what he believes to be a failure to act as required. Letter to go to the member of the public confirming the advice that was given in relation to this matter.

  • All Parish Councillors signed the paperwork for the transfer of the bank account to the Cumberland Building Society as previously resolved.

6.1.19 Reports from outside bodies

  • United Utilities, gave a presentation on the work completed on the new pipeline, information on the further work to be undertaken and progress and answered a number of questions about the supply. Information is to be forwarded to clerk with a link that can be posted on the website for all to access. Information can also be found by going on to https://www.unitedutilities.com/faq/water-sewer-issues/what-is-the-water-quality-for-my-area/ which will give specific information on water quality in specific areas and other FAQ's
  • Allerdale Borough Council - Cllr Farebrother, sent in information on the new roll out of blue bins to replace purple bags, information has been shared on the website.
  • Cllr Cockburn: the new stadium proposal was called into Scrutiny for consideration, but has now moved forward to planning stage. B & M who have a proposal for a new store next to the Lakes Home Store has launched an appeal after being unsuccessful in their planning application.

9.1.1 Flooding updates -

DEFRA have a consultation out and it was requested that people take the time to feed back into this,

10.1.19 - Parish Maintenance -

  • Grass cutting contract. 2 quotations were received, and it was resolved to ask Jackson Hetherington to undertake the work for this season. The amount tendered represented a saving to the Parish Council of 450 over the year. Clerk to make contact with both parties that tendered.
  • Notice Boards - All in need of repair/replacement. Clerk to get quotations for the work to be carried out and circulate information to all.
  • Bus Shelter, Dovenby - Correspondence from Cumbria County Council re the condition of the bus shelter which is privately owned. Discussed taking on the liability, but it was not deemed to be in the interest of the Parish to do so. Clerk to contact CCC to let them know.
  • Defibrillator for Dovenby, the nearest is in M Sport gatehouse, but this is often not staffed and a good distance away. RC to liaise with the correspondent who raised the issue as he was successful in finding the location and getting the installation of the Bridekirk appliance.

12.1.19 - Cumbria Community Foundation

Next meeting will not take place until May/June 2019 so nothing to update.
